I sit at a cheap desk for nine hours a day. By the time I get home I have absolutely zero interest in doing a standing workout. My legs feel heavy and my feet usually hurt from my boots. Last Thursday I decided to skip standing completely. I did my entire upper body routine while sitting flat on the living room rug. I did not even bother putting my running shoes on.
I took my lightest red resistance band and looped it completely around the back right leg of my heavy gray couch. I sat with my back pressed directly against the bottom cushion. I held one end of the rubber band in each hand and did overhead presses until my arms started shaking. It worked surprisingly well. The band rubbed against the rough fabric of the couch a little bit, but it did not leave a mark. Then I leaned forward and used the exact same band to do seated rows. The angle was slightly weird but I definitely felt the tension in my upper back.
The only real problem with working out on the floor is the rug itself. I have a cheap synthetic rug that sheds tiny loose fibers everywhere. By the time I finished my workout I had gray fuzz stuck to the entire back of my black leggings. I had to use a sticky lint roller for five minutes before I could sit on the actual furniture.
I am going to keep doing seated workouts when I am too tired to stand. I just need to remember to put a clean towel down first so I do not completely ruin my clothes.
